For this week’s market spotlight, we look at Palette Poetry, an online poetry publication that pays poets.
Palette Poetry is an online poetry publication that considers and publishes poetry throughout the year. They look to publish a diverse array of poets from a variety of backgrounds and experience levels.
The editors say, “We have no particular aesthetic vision or mission except to create a safe and encouraging space for all voices. Our goal is to simply find and publish the best poetry we can, no matter its roots in craft.”
Poets are paid $50 for accepted poems, up to $150 for three poems.
What They’re Looking For
Palette Poetry seeks to publish poetry in a variety of styles and from an array of poets. As mentioned above, they seek to publish (and pay for) great poetry, regardless of style and publishing background.
The editors say, “We also warmly invite under-represented and marginalized voices to submit. Our aim is to be an accurate representation of the wonderful diversity of our community. Your voice is valued here, so to help do our part in moving forward the needle on equity in publishing, we’ve opened a special category for historically marginalized voices to send their work directly to our editorial team and receive a response within two weeks.”
How to Submit
Potential writers can submit their work year round on their Submittable page.
(Note: There are submission fee options: $9.99 for a fast response (2-3 weeks) and/or $59 for up to two pages of editorial feedback on your submission. For some beginning poets, this may be an appealing offer, but be aware that it’s not typical to pay these higher fees for submissions and/or editorial feedback. Know what and why you’re paying submission fees if you choose to go that route.)
